Every society, be it a family or a nation, is identified by its history and culture. Powell River and Texada Island are fortunate to have both museums and groups dedicated to keeping the heritage of these communities and individual families intact for future generations.

This non-profit group was formed in 1980 to provide an opportunity for communication and information exchange to residents wishing to trace their family history and to obtain source materials of a specialized nature, otherwise not available locally.
Local staff, with a wealth of information to share, collect, preserve and exhibit the history of the Powell River area with two floors of displays. Researchers and people interested in history will find a treasure trove of information on their website. Although it hasn't been updated since 2013, there is a large collection of photos on the Museum's Blog.
As of 2014 the Powell River Forestry Museum became part of the PRMA.
The Townsite Heritage Society was formed in 1992 with the objective to protect, enhance, maintain and promote the historical character and integrity of the traditional neighbourhood and business section of the Powell River Townsite. The area was designated as a National Historic District of Canada in 1995.
