Measuring Up Committee for Accessibility and Inclusion

Patti Coburn, Co-Chair
5001 Joyce, Powell River, BC V8A 3B6  (604) 485-2891   Website

The Powell River Measuring Up Committee was formed in 2006 and meets regularly to address accessibility and inclusion of persons with both visible and invisible disabilities in our community. The ‘Measuring Up’ process was developed through 2010 Legacies Now program Measuring Up. This involved Powell River’s taking an inventory of the needs and services available to our citizens who have temporary/ long-term disabilities and barriers. The Measuring Up Committee structured the needs assessment along five major categories (spelling the acronym “T.H.E.R.E”):

The Powell River Measuring Up (MUp) Committee consists of about a dozen members chosen from various sectors of our community: health care and disability service providers, education, persons with disabilities, seniors, youth, as well as First Nations and City of Powell River representatives. The Committee is currently co-chaired by Joyce Carlson and Patti Coburn, replacing Dr.Geraldine Braak (O.C, O.B.C) currently a standing member of this Committee.
