Representatives from all agencies who deal with family, relationship or sexual violence coordinate their efforts, monitor and improve their services, and provide community and professional education.

Police Based Victim Support Services, Powell River

Police-Based Victims Services provides direct support services to crime and trauma victims and witnesses. Some of the services provided are:  Crisis intervention support, emotional support and information about a victim's specific case, including police file and court file updates. Practical assistance is offered including safety planning, assistance in completing Victim Impact Statements and applications for the Crime Victim Assistance Program; orientation to the criminal justice system and witness preparation. There is accompaniment or the facilitation of accompaniment, to meetings with police, Crown Counsel or court. Referrals are made to appropriate community agencies such as counselling.

Hours: 9 - 4 Monday to Thursday

A free and confidential support service for women and men who are victims of spousal or sexual assault, criminal harassment, or stalking, and for children who have been sexually abused. The service includes general information, accompaniment to court and legal or medical appointments, court orientation, and referrals to appropriate community services. We provide assistance with Victim Impact Statements and Criminal Injury Compensation applications. There is a Book and video library available.

One-on-one counselling for children up to 18 years of age whose emotional health and self-esteem have been damaged by witnessing the abuse of one of their parents by the other or by another person.

Grace House, a nine-bed facility, provides free shelter, safety, and non-judgmental support for women and children fleeing an abusive or violent relationship. A social de-tox bed is also available.  Staffed:  24 hours a day.

Stopping the Violence Program

Offers one-on-one counselling and/or group counselling for women who are currently experiencing, or have experienced (including childhood) any type of abuse, emotional, physical and/or sexual.  This is a free, confidential service for women.   

The “I CAN” Group meets Mondays 4:30 – 6:30 and Wednesdays 9:30 – 11:30 am  Members may attend only one group.

Work with and support-related services for women who have experienced violence.   Deliver public education initiatives to raise awareness of the effects of violence against women and violence prevention. Hours: Tuesday - Wednesday
