Powell Riverites love to get outdoors and play sports of all kinds, a tradition that dates back to the very first employees of the Powell River Co. in 1910. Today there is a group or club for a variety of sports that includes archery, baseball, track and field, outdoor adventure, lawn bowling, rugby, soccer, tennis and even flying.
Year-round Sports Club set a goal to water ski or snowboard for 12 months.
Meetings: 6:30 pm 1st Wed (except July and August)
Started in 1937 as a fishing club, the Rod and Gun Club “promote(s) co-operation and good sportsmanship amongst those engaged in fishing and hunting and to protect, preserve and to propagate fish, game and forests for the use of general public.”
Pickleball is a cross between table tennis, badminton and tennis with a court approximately half the size of a tennis court, wooden paddles and a lot of fast play close to the net. The Powell River Pickleball Club has scheduled games five times per week indoors at the Oceanview Education Centre with a $2 drop-in fee and three times per week outdoors at the Townsite tennis courts, which is free.
